The Medical Device Integration Engineer is responsible for integrating and supporting clinical medical devices within healthcare IT environments. This role focuses on enabling secure and reliable communication between bedside medical devices and electronic health record (EHR) systems using standards such as HL7 and FHIR. The position requires strong knowledge of clinical workflows, device connectivity, and real-time data exchange to ensure accurate patient monitoring, system interoperability, and high availability of medical device integrations.

Primary Skill

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with medical device integration in a healthcare environment.
  • Strong understanding of bedside medical devices such as vital signs monitors, ventilators, infusion pumps, anesthesia machines, ECG/telemetry, and smart beds.
  • Proficiency with HL7 messaging, including ADT, ORU, ORM, and flowsheet mappings.
  • Experience supporting real-time clinical workflows and device-to-EHR data exchange.

Secondary Skill

  • Experience with serial-to-IP device connectivity and converters.
  • Familiarity with IEEE 11073 medical device communication standards.
  • Knowledge of SNMP, syslog, and device monitoring technologies.
  • Experience with programming or scripting languages – Java, C++, .Net, Python, JavaScript, etc.

Desired Skill / Good to Have

  • Using and building AI (LLMs, Agentic AI).
  • Experience with FHIR / REST API–based device integrations.
