The Senior zSystems Automation / GDPS Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing automation solutions for mainframe operations. This role focuses on creating automation scripts, monitoring rules, and disaster recovery automation using OPSMVS and Netview/SA.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop OPSMVS and Netview/SA automation rules to replace manual operator commands.
  • Create system monitoring scripts to detect system messages and conditions.
  • Implement automation that allows operations teams to respond quickly to system events.
  • Design and implement automation to generate ServiceNow incident tickets.
  • Ensure automation requests are implemented within defined SLA timelines.
  • Assist with GDPS software installation and automation scripting.
  • Maintain disaster recovery and rapid recovery automation processes.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation including weekend support when required.

Required Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience implementing automation solutions using OPSMVS and Netview/SA.
  • 15+ years of experience working with TSO, ISPF, and SDSF.
  • 15+ years of experience working with zOS operational commands.
  • 10+ years of experience with zOS operating system including JES2 and RACF.
  • 10+ years of experience coding OPSMVS REXX rules and Netview/SA automation scripts.
  • 5+ years of experience using APIs to automate ServiceNow incident ticket creation.
  • 10+ years of experience with GDPS installation and disaster recovery scripting.
  • Ability to analyze operational data and automate system responses.
  • Experience using AI tools for system analysis and operational improvements.
  • Ability to use Microsoft 365 Copilot for documentation and communication.
  • Continuous learning mindset regarding AI technologies in mainframe environments.
