The DB2 and IMS platforms are critical components of enterprise claims processing systems. The zSystems DBA supports both DB2 and IMS platforms, ensuring stability, performance, and availability of applications and database environments. The role involves collaboration with application teams, database performance monitoring, and supporting application deployments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide database administration for DB2 zSystems applications.
- Support IMS database environments and applications.
- Assist application teams with database design, deployment, and performance tuning.
- Monitor database performance and ensure system stability.
- Support application deployments including off-hour implementation activities.
- Provide proactive analysis of database performance and potential issues.
- Participate in rotating on-call support schedules.
- Support incident queues and resolve database-related issues.
- Provide batch abend support for DBA-related jobs.
- Manage database storage space and application performance.
Required Skills:
- 7+ years of experience working with IBM z/OS, IMS, CICS, DB2, and RACF.
- 7+ years of experience working with IBM utilities, JCL, access methods, and file structures.
- 7+ years of experience with programming languages such as REXX, COBOL, and C-list.
- 7+ years of experience with SQL and database queries.
- 5+ years of experience working with DB2 database objects.
- 5+ years of experience with DB2 application design or development.
- 5+ years of experience using DB2 utilities (IBM or BMC tools).
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of database replication technologies.
- Experience with programming languages such as Python.
- Experience with DB2 version 13.
- Basic knowledge of Workload Manager (WLM).
- Experience with system monitoring and performance tuning.
- Knowledge of access and security administration in DB2.
- Ability to use AI tools to analyze database capacity planning data.
- Experience using Microsoft 365 Copilot for documentation and communication.
- Ability to create and maintain database documentation such as schema diagrams and data dictionaries.
